Supporting pregnant women with pelvic pain - Sunday 12th March 2017 10-4pm, Central Caversham, Reading
It is estimated that about 45% of all pregnant women and 25% of all women postpartum suffer from pregnancy-related pelvic girdle pain (PPP)”, and/or “pregnancy-related low back pain. If you are teaching pregnancy yoga (or work with pregnant clients), it is therefore likely that you will have someone in your class at any one time with at least mild pelvic pain. This one-day workshop is for any professional (doula, maternity massage/ reflexology therapist, yoga teacher) who works with expectant mums and would like to understand more about the physiology and function of the pelvis during pregnancy, and learn strategies to help their client manage it, including yoga postures.
For the planned schedule, see here (may be subject to change)
The workshop will be taught by Tessa Sanderson, PhD (Yoga teacher) and Kelly-Jane McLaughlin, MSc. For Tessa's bio, see here. Kelly-Jane owns a successful, vitalistic, family based Chiropractic practice with her husband in Reading, U.K. Awarded the UCA Chiropractor of the Year 2013, she coaches other chiropractors and their teams around the world; helping them be their best personally and professionally. She has three boys.
Incorporating postnatal women (up to 2 years post-birth) into a general class - POSTPONED, Caversham, Reading
This workshop examines the postnatal body and how to best support her in a general yoga class for up to two years after birth. It will consider physical considerations, such as diastasis recti, and protecting new scar tissue, and also how best to support emotional considerations, such as vulnerability and pressure to be a 'yummy mummy'. We will also consider practical issues, such as what information to collect on class registration forms to best care for your clients.
For the planned schedule see here (may be subject to change).
The workshop will be taught by Tessa who runs five Mother & Baby Yoga classes, a Yoga for Women class that mums come to once their little ones are in bed, and co-hosts a Positive Birth Group where women come to talk about their births and their postnatal experience. She also sits on the Maternity Forum at the Royal Berkshire Hospital. She has two daughters.
(Go to second page from shop to select your workshop. Workshops are non-refundable unless we can find someone to take your place, but this is not guaranteed. Only exception is for doulas who are attending a birth.
